even though the tracklist for this release lists 18 different artists, it’s actually a collaborative work of four hungarian producers, who wish to remain anonymous. it’s primarily due to the fact that the whole release is based on samples of hungarian hit songs from the 80s and 90s and - as you might guess - copyrights are not cleared. (truth to be told: any effort to settle the copyright issue with relevant authorities on a release like this would most likely make this comp impossible to put out….)
if you’ve encountered any material based on samples of cheesy pop songs, you might just figure this one is about making fun of the original material. fortunatelly, the the involved producers have a whole different approach here. instead of ridiculing the mainstream pop music of a certain era and a certain geographic region, they catapult it into weirdo-sphere.
samples are filtered, slowed down and twisted, really obvious/recognisable references are mostly avoided and usually brainfeeder compatible beats serve as a foundation for them. the source material is put in a contemporary context and by doing so nnounn conduct deliver way more valid and profound means of reflection then just say imitating a cheesy hungarian hits youtube playlist in a 98-songs-in-30-minutes manner.
